Calendar of Events

Many cancer patients describe diagnosis, treatment and survivorship as a journey. At times, this journey can be confusing and overwhelming. With UNC Cancer Care, you are not alone. Support groups, social gatherings and educational opportunities for patients and their families are just some of the ways that we are here to support you.

Special Events

Cancer Transitions: Moving Beyond Treatment

When: Thursdays, 6:00-8:30 p.m., March 06 – April 10, 2014
Where: Carolina Pointe II
About: A 6-week workshop to help survivors transition from active treatment to post-treatment care with focus on adopting a healthy lifestyle. Contact Pamela Durham at 919-843-0935 for more information.

Pediatric Hematology/Oncology Family Retreat

When: April 13-14, 2014
Where: Aqueduct Conference Center, Chapel Hill, NC 
About: For UNC patients (who are undergoing or have recently completed treatment), siblings and parents or caregivers. Overnight retreat with separate kid and parent groups. Call 919-843-9244 or email to register.

Bone Marrow Transplant (BMT) Caregivers Support Group

When: Wednesdays, 3:00-4:00 p.m.
Where: BMT Lounge, 4th Floor, N.C. Cancer Hospital
About: For caregivers of UNC’s BMT Unit patients

Breast Cancer Support for Young Women

When: First Tuesday of each Month, 7:00 – 8:30 p.m.
Where: Carolina Pointe II
About: For women ages 18-45 with breast cancer

Caregiver Conversations

When: Second Tuesday and fourth Thursday of each month, 2:00-3:00 p.m.
Where: Patient and Family Resource Center
About: For caregivers to meet and share stories through planned topics and social time.

Friday Family Coffee

When: Fridays, 9:00-11:00 a.m.
Where: Patient and Family Resource Center
About: For UNC Cancer Care patients and caregivers to meet for coffee. Arts & crafts also available.

I CANcer: Hematology/Oncology Adolescent and Parent Support Groups

When: Second Wednesday of the month from 5:00—6:15 p.m.
Where:  Pediatric Oncology Clinic, 1st floor, N.C. Cancer Hospital
About:  Photography for ages 12 & up, who have been treated at UNC for cancer or blood disorders. Pizza, drinks and cameras are provided. Parents meet separately. Call 919-966-4775 for more information.

Legal Clinic (Free)

When: Second and fourth Friday of each month, 9 a.m. to noon.
Where: Patient and Family Resource Center, N.C. Cancer Hospital
About: A free legal clinic for UNC cancer patients and their care givers, staffed by UNC law students and volunteer attorneys, providing assistance with preparing powers of attorney and living wills. Call Cindy Rogers at 919-445-5414 for more information.

Lymphedema Prevention Class

When: First Wednesday of each month, 1-2:00 p.m.
Where: Carolina Pointe II
About: For patients at risk for lymphedema. Call 919-957-6600 to RSVP.

Mindfully Living

When: Mondays, 4:30-5:30 p.m.
Where: Carolina Pointe II
About: An intro to mindfulness, a skill used to improve health. Call 919-966-3494 to register. 

Morning of Beauty

When: Third Monday of each month, 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.    
Where: Patient and Family Resource Center
About: The Look Good, Feel Better program explores beauty strategies for female patients. Call 919-843-0680 to reserve your spot.

Nutrition During Cancer Treatment

When: Third Thursday of each month, 12:00 – 1:00 p.m.
Where: Patient and Family Resource Center
About: For UNC Cancer Care patients and caregivers to learn about nutrition in cancer. Call 919-966-3494 for topics.

Support Program for Single Fathers

When: Third Monday of each month, 6:00 - 7:30 p.m.
Where: Carolina Pointe II

Triangle Bladder Cancer Support

When: Second Tuesday of each month, 7:00 – 8:30 p.m.

UNC Cancer Care Massages

When: Every Tuesday by appointment
Where: Carolina Pointe II
About: UNC Cancer Care outpatients and caregivers can get 2 free, one hour massages. Call 919-957-6600 to make an appointment.

UNC Cancer Care Partial Body Massages

When: Every Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday by appointment
Where: Patient & Family Resource Center
About: UNC Cancer Care patients and caregivers can get 15 - 30 minute, partial body massages. Call 919-843-0680 for an appointment. Inpatients and caregivers of inpatients may ask their nurse to request an appointment.

Writing and Healing for Caregivers

When: Wednesdays, 12:00-1:00 p.m.
Where: Starbucks Conference Room, N.C. Cancer Hospital
About: A writing workshop for UNC Cancer Care caregivers. No experience is needed. Bring your own lunch. For more information, call 919-966-0716 or email .

Yoga

When: Every Monday and Thursday, 11:00 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. and Fridays, 10:00 - 11:30 a.m. 
Where: Carolina Pointe II
About: For patients, survivors and caregivers.

CCSP Locations

N.C. Cancer Hospital
The N.C. Cancer Hospital is located at 110 Manning Drive, in the UNC Health Care complex. The Patient and Family Resource Center is located in the main lobby of the hospital

Patient parking is available in the Dogwood parking deck and shuttles are available from the parking deck to the hospital. Parking is $1.25 per hour with an $8.00 maximum for a full day.

Valet Parking is also available in the N.C. Cancer Hospital lot on Emergency Room Drive. The cost is $10, pre-paid.
