Ellen Cohen

After a 25-year career as a psychologist, Ellen decided to come to UNC to help with research. "I am very happy that I have managed to have two wonderful careers in one lifetime," she says. "I feel that the work I do helps keep the research going that will bring new treatments for cancer."
One of Ellen's favorite pastimes is hunting for gems and minerals. She hunts for them mostly in North Carolina but this passion has taken her all over the country. "My last trip was to a mine to look for pyrite, a beautiful silver colored cubic mineral," she explains. "Most of the gems and minerals have to be hammered and picked out of the surrounding rocks. It’s dirty work but lots of fun."
