Amber Essenmacher, PA-C, MMS
She works with physicians, pharmacists, nurses and other support staff to help diagnose and manage common post-transplant complications like graft vs. host disease, opportunistic infections, and chemotherapy-induced side effects. She also performs procedures such as bone marrow biopsies, lumbar punctures, and skin biopsies.
Amber has enjoyed over seven years in this field. "The absolute, most rewarding part of my job is celebrating milestones with my patients," she says. "Whether that is a two-year post-transplant "cancer-free" status, a wedding ceremony, or a new grandchild being born, they are all memories that I get to share with them."
Many of the patients Amber takes care of are in the hospital for weeks or months at a time. "They endure tremendous physical, emotional and financial strain, but continue to be the most grateful patients you will ever meet," she says. "The patients and their families continually inspire me."
She is a married mother of three-year-old identical twin boys who keep her busy! She enjoys reading and running, baking with her boys, and volunteering in the children's ministry at church.
