On March 10, 2008, the First Annual Nutrition Luncheon was held at the UNC Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center for patients, families, and staff. Attendees learned about healthy eating strategies for cancer survivors based on the new 2007 American Institute for Cancer Research guidelines for cancer prevention.

- The First National Registered Dietitian Day Luncheon was held in memory of Zeny Datiles.

- Pam Baker, Resource Center Staff; Stephanie Lu, UNC Graduate Student; and Aimee Shea, Oncology Dietitian welcome program participants.

- Dr. Ulda Datiles, Founding Sponsor of Zeny’s Garden; Pamela Dixon, a breast cancer survivor; Tina Shaban, Resource Center Manager; Pam Baker, Resource Center staf; and Aimee Shea, Oncology Dietitian

- Armin and Jeanne Hagen, 14 year UNC Cancer Center volunteers, delivered special lunches of healthy comfort food to patients in the chemotherapy infusion area who could not attend the luncheon.

- Aimee Shea presented the 2007 AICR guidelines on cancer prevention and nutrition to a “standing room only” crowd.
|

- Participants asked questions and shared information regarding nutritional concerns following cancer treatment.
|

- Cancer survivors, family, and staff enjoyed a lively discussion before the seminar began.
|

- Weekly nutritional programs related to symptom management are being offered in the chemotherapy and radiation therapy waiting areas throughout March.
