Biostatistics and Clinical Data Management

This core facility is located on the second floor (20-024) of the Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center near the Breast Cancer Conference Room. It is open Monday - Friday, 8:30 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.

About Our Faculty and Staff

Dr. Joseph G. Ibrahim is the Facility's Faculty Director. Important faculty contributors include Drs. Michael Bowling, Pei Fen Kuan, Anastasia Ivanova, Bahjat F. Qaqish and Anna Snavely. Allison M. Deal is a full time Cancer Center Biostatistician, and Anna Snavely is also full time and located in Lineberger. Dominic T. Moore is a Senior Biostatistician and the Facility Director.

We have a number of graduate research assistants (GRAs) working with Cancer Center Statisticians. Most of them are assigned to assist with a specific project with their senior faculty advisor. Their efforts are often key components to the successful completion of certain projects. Our current GRAs are: Hojin Yang, Shangbang Rao, and Christopher Bryant.

Clinical Data Management is a significant component of this Facility. Current members of this component are Paul E. Jones, Robert V. Nachtsheim, Robin V. Jackson, and Donna Harper.

Getting Started

For new requests or questions concerning the Biostatistics (BIOS) Core, please email us at:

If you are unsure how much, or how little, statistical or research design input you might need, a good first step would be to meet informally with a LCCC statistician at our Walk-In Clinic. These clinics are on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 12 to 1 pm. Talking with a statistician at one of these clinics can be a good starting point, and a good way to get introduced to the BIOS Core and our Core services that might be of interest to you.

The LCCC BIOS Core looks to match statisticians with researchers and their projects based on expertise, interest, and availability. Besides LCCC Core Statisticians, the Core also has access to other UNC Statisticians, particularly School of Public Health Statisticians that may be available and interested in collaborating on a particular project.

The BIOS Core is a ‘no-charge’ facility. However, advice on including one of our statisticians on a grant for a certain ‘percent effort’ (i.e. how much and when this might called for and appropriate) is readily available.

Researchers, and particularly other statisticians and data analysts, may be interested in software made available by LCCC statisticians. Please click on the ‘software’ link next to a statistician's name to review what is available and to gain access. Please feel free to return to these pages for possible software updates and additions.

Welcome Dr. Anna Snavely

Born in Greensboro, Anna earned her undergraduate degree in mathematics with a concentration in statistics from Wake Forest University.  She completed her PhD in Biostatistics at Harvard University in 2012. Her dissertation work was motivated by cancer clinical trials and involved methods for analyzing clustered survival and multiple outcomes data.

While at Harvard, Anna was involved in many collaborative projects at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. In particular, she worked with investigators at the Center for Community-Based Research, the Head and Neck Cancer Program, and the Lance Armstrong Foundation Adult Survivorship Program.

We are very pleased to have Anna with us! Please join us in welcoming her to our Cancer Center.
