His current research interests include pharmaceutical care, patient-centered care, and primary care. Dr. Weinberger has conducted a randomized trial of pharmaceutical care in 36 community drug stores. In 2001, he completed a 5-year term as Co-Editor of Medical Care. In 2002, Dr. Weinberger received the Vision Award for Groundbreaking Research in Chronic Illness Care from the Improving Chronic Illness Care Program. And, in 2003, he received the Under Secretary's Award for Outstanding Achievement in Health Services Research from the Department of Veterans Affairs. He is an investigator on CANCORS. He served as dissertation advisor to Dr. Laura Beskow, who had a Lineberger pre-doctoral fellowship to study recruiting research participants from cancer registries. He is also dissertation advisor to Talya Salz, a Lineberger pre-doctoral fellow, who is studying treatment preferences for patients with terminal lung cancer.
