Annual Concert Provides Entertainment and Esophageal Cancer Awareness

Men of Faith of Faith Missionary Baptist Church of Raleigh, NC

The event is held each year to increase awareness of and raise research funds for esophageal cancer. Renee Garris served as mistress of ceremonies.

Performing were the Saint Matthew AME Praise Dancers and Mass Choir, the Pleasant Union Youth Choir, Men of Faith, all from Raleigh, and the Bethel Hall Missionary Baptist Church Choir from Laurens, South Carolina. Tyrone Hilliard performed a mime presentation.

Dr. Alice Garrett and Chaunte Garrett speak to the participants.

Dr. Alice Garrett, Bobby Garrett’s wife, offered remarks, as did Dr. Neil Hayes, Mr. Garret’s UNC Lineberger physician, and a special presentation was made by Nashett Chaunte Garrett, Mr. Garrett’s daughter. The presentation was made to the Calvin Bledsoe family who lost Calvin to cancer.

The Garrett family is seeking families with members who are living with cancer or who have lost a loved one to cancer to help promote and support the annual benefit each year as well as corporate sponsors. The Bledsoe family is the first to be recognized.

The event, including a silent auction, raised $6,000.
