Conference Focuses on Breast Cancer

UNC’s Breast Program faculty were the featured speakers at the William J. Smith Memorial Oncology Conference, held May 7, 2010 at the Biltmore’s Lioncrest Conference Center in Asheville, NC. Sponsored by Mission Hospital Cancer Services and the Mountain Area AHEC (Area Health Education Centers) in collaboration with UNC Lineberger, the keynote was delivered by Hyman Muss, MD, who provided an overview of treating breast cancer in older women. Other featured speakers included Lisa Carey, MD on Advances in the Medical Management of Breast Cancer, Ellen Jones, MD on State of the Art Radiation Therapy for the Treatment of Breast Cancer, David Ollila, MD on Surgical Advances for the Treatment of Breast Cancer and Carey Anders, MD, Focus on Brain Metastases of Breast Cancer. The panel provided case reviews and took multiple questions from the audience. |

At the dinner following the conference, Tom Shea, MD and Mary Beck, MPH provided an overview of UNC Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center in Western, NC: Outreach, Education and Research Opportunities for Health Care Providers.
