Rebounds and Rhinestones Raises Over $57,000 to Benefit Pediatric Oncology at UNC
UNC Women’s Basketball Coach Sylvia Hatchell, special guest Good Morning America anchor Robin Roberts, and the entire UNC Women’s basketball team, welcomed attendees to the Rebounds and Rhinestones gala on November 6th to kick off the Jessica Breland Comeback Kids Fund to benefit pediatric oncology at UNC. Keynote remarks from Roberts, who is a breast cancer survivor, focused on “Make your Mess Your Message.” Roberts relayed key times in her own life when she used adversity as a motivator and an opportunity to help someone else, ending with a congratulatory message for Jessica Breland and contributing a bonus item to the event’s silent auction – a second trip to visit her on the set of Good Morning America in New York.
The presenting sponsor was Mark Jacobson Toyota and Suzuki. Table sponsors were Educational Foundation/UNC Department of Athletics, GlaxoSmithKline, Kay Yow Cancer Fund, UNC Women’s Basketball, and UNC Health Care.
ABC 11 was media sponsor for the event, and one of its anchors, Tisha Powell, served as emcee for the evening. The night included a reception, dinner, an auction, and entertainment by Mike Cross. Guests learned more about Jessica Breland and the fund named in her honor.
