Teal Tea Party Promotes Awareness, Supports Research

Lydia's Legacy held a Teal Tea Party on September 11, 2011 - an afternoon of friendship and entertainment to raise awareness about gynecologic cancers and to remember Dr. Lydia Greene Ross.

Teal Tea PartyFrom teal flowers and cupcakes to teal high heel shoes and hats, this event was, in the words of Lydia's daughter, Carin Ross Johnson, "truly beauTEALful!"

The mayor of Charlotte declared September 19, 2011 as "Teal Day Charlotte" in honor of Lydia’s birthday, and at the tea party, the proclamation was read by Harold Cogdell, County Commission Member-at-Large. Music was provided by the Brass Connection and Dr. Renae Sanders and a silent auction was held.

Speeches were given by Charles Ross (Lydia’s son and a testicular cancer survivor), Erica Bell (ovarian cancer survivor), and Dr. James Hall (Director of Gynecological Oncology at Blumenthal Cancer Center).

The group plans to make the Teal Tea Party an annual event and hopes to bring it to Miami, Florida next year.

About the organizations

Lydia's Legacy is an organization that promotes awareness and research for gynecologic cancers. The organization creates opportunities for education, awareness and fundraising for women and their families and was founded in memory of Dr. Lydia Greene Ross, who died of endometrial cancer in 2010.

The Teal Tea Party event was created by Carin Ross Johnson in Charlotte, NC in memory of her mother, Dr. Lydia Greene Ross and in honor of all who have dealt with gynecologic cancers.
