First Annual Bike Race Benefits Pediatric Oncology

Riders pedaled their way through either a 25 mile or 50 mile loop that began at Mcdougle Middle School and followed paths through Orange and Alamance counties. Seventy bicyclists and approximately 100 volunteers took part in the first annual Pedal for Pēds fundraiser on September 25, 2010.

Riders pedaled their way through either a 25 mile or 50 mile loop that began at Mcdougle Middle School and followed paths through Orange and Alamance counties.

Approximately $10,000 was raised to support UNC’s pediatric hematology/oncology division.  Funds will provide assistance with such patient expenses as gas, parking, and food; the division’s fellowship program; and small research projects.

Special thanks to the community and to Marty and Meg Pomerantz, the Bothwell and Minta families, and Cycle 9.

Race t-shirts and wristbands are still available for sale. If you are interested in purchasing them, leave a message for Julie Blatt, MD, at 919-966-0590.

If you would like to make a gift for Pedal for Pēds, go to UNC Lineberger’s online gift donation form. In the note section, please indicate that your gift is for Pedal for Pēds.
